BACK. IN. BUSINESS!

Zo, beste medeliefhebbers.

Sanguis Burgundiae 2019

So, dear meadlovers. You’ve noticed without a doubt that as of January 31st there was ver little -none whatsoever, actually- activity on these pages. Even worse: we’ve even taken the shop offline. Allow me to explain a few things. Let me take you back to January 31, 7:01 AM. At that precise moment the doorbel at the Blacksmith’s residence rang. On our lawn: a busload of customs / excise agents. Long story short: I was under the impression that the Blacksmith’s Meadery was operating on the level with the authorities. F.A.V.V. permit and all (the F.A.V.V. is the Belgian federal agency watching over the safety of everything food related). Quod Non. Apparently one also needs a permit from the customs / excise agency. And that is where the people who took care of the starting up of our company dropped the ball. Even if it was them who entered us in the database of enterprises as a friggin’ alcoholproducer. They kind of forgot to mention this somewhat important bit of info.

A hearing at the customs / excise office and a rather hefty fine later everything is OK permit-wise. We owe a lot of thanks to the people of the Antwerp branch of the agency. They sped our application trough the papermill, without any hiccups.

To celebrate our ‘resurection’ we’re launching a promo today. For every purchase of 5 bottles in the webshop you’ll get the sixth one for free. To this end we’ll deduct 16.67% from the total of your basket. The promotion will run until March 31st, as long as the stock lasts. A word of caution to this tale. From March 10 until March 20 I’ll be in Denver, CO. Shipment of your order might be delayed until I’m over my jetlag. So March 22.
