Zoals jullie ondertussen allemaal wel weten zit ondergetekende in Denver, Colorado. Deze week ging er de jaarlijkse AMMA MeadCon en de Mazer Cup International door. Beide evenementen kunnen we uiteraard niet missen. MeadCon staat bol van de meest interessante lezingen en tijdens de Mazer Cup worden de beoordelingsskills behoorlijk aangescherpt. Een niet onbelangrijk onderdeel van de Mazer Cup is de jaarlijkse Mead Mixer, waar een grote groep mederijen (waaronder yours truly) hun producten voorstellen. Wij hadden dit jaar Aqua Diabolica, Original Sin V.1.O en Moretum bij. We kunnen wel stellen dat onze medes een serieuze hit waren bij het Amerikaanse publiek. Als een van de grote zwaargewichten in de Mead Scene je persoonlijk komt vertellen hoe goed hij je product wel vindt, doet dat iets met een mens. Het was gelukkig erg warm in de ruimte waar de mixer doorging. Ik had dus sowieso al een rode kop. De mensen konden me dus niet zien blozen.
As you al know yours truly is in Denver, CO. The past week it was the location of the yearly AMMA MeadCon and the Mazer Cup International. Of course we couldn’t miss out on any of these events. MeadCon is filled to the brim with interesting lectures and the Mazer Cup is perfect for honing one’s tasting skills. An important part of the Mazer Cup is the Mead Mixer. That’s where a large group of meaderies showcases their products. This year we brought Aqua Diabolica, Original Sin V.1.0 and Moretum. Suffice it to say that they were extremely well received amongst the American public. If one of the heavy weights in the Mead Scene makes it a point to come and tell you how great he thinks your product is, one tends to be humbled. Luckily it was very hot in the room, so I already had a red face. People didn’t see me blush.
Stilte voor de storm // Calm before the storm
Uiteraard biedt Colorado ook de nodige ontspanningsmogelijkheden. Aangezien we een auto gehuurd hebben, konden we er dus ook op uit trekken. Zij die me wat beter kennen weten dat ik eerder een bergmens ben en daar de Rocky Mountains achter de hoek liggen ben ik de ruige natuur ingetrokken. Als je ooit de kans krijgt: aanradertje.
Of course there is ample choice in ways to spend your free time in CO. We hired a car at the airport so the possibilities for field trips were endless. The people that know me well know that I’m a kind of sucker for the mountains. Since the Rockies are just behind the corner of the hotel I went on a hike in the roughness that’s Colorado’s wild outdoors. If you ever have the chance: it’s 100% Blacksmith approved.
