We’re playing with the big boys now. (Vrij naar the Prince of Egypt)

Yesterday we took the Blacksmithmobile for a spin to Essen (Germany). Sadly Metmanufaktur Laufenstein will stop their activities at the end of 2018. The Blacksmith’s Meadery bought some of the fermenting and aging tanks.  We are now the proud owners of a 300 liter conical fermentation tank and a 300 liter aging/storage barrel. Little challenge. Try and fit that in a Dacia Sandero. Luckily yours truly has a past as Tetris Master and fitting the tanks in the car didn’t pose too many problems. Side note: driving trough Germany with the right rear view mirror blocked is a -ehm- special experience. Luckily we’ve got a little mirror to keep an eye on Blacksmith v2.0 in the rear seat that could double for the unavailable mirror.

The tanks are stowed away in our stock for now. They will of course be put into service as soon as possible. Per batch they will hold anywhere between 100 and 150 kg of honey.

Back to work! Fun’s over.

Or is it?

Ready for sampling

We’ve returned from vacation the day before yesterday and we’ve just about settled back in (vacation is exausthing!). So duty calls. After two weeks of inactivity it’s about time to liven things up al little in the brewery. Cue tastingsession! Five meads are ready or about to be. Fun game: Try to discover in the second picture what meads Sarah likes best… *grin* (hint: she doesn’t drink beer)

  1. Sanguis Imperatoris (black currant)
  2. Sanguis Regis (blackberries)
  3. Cherrynomus Bosch (cherries)
  4. Malleus (Porter style braggot)
  5. Incus (Belgian Golden Strong Ale style braggot)

Work work.

Earlier this week we visited the #brasseriedachouffe. It’s always nice to see how the big boys run things. We still have a LOT of ground to cover at the Blacksmith’s Meadery *grin*
